What is the name of the project(s) that you are involved with?: Open Youth Networks and YouthLAB. I am teaching young people - particularly low income and youth of color who are socially motivated - to use participatory culture and web 2.0 tools for change within their own communities. This summer I am running YouthLAB - a two week project which brings together youth from Chicago and Barbados in a virtual contact zone. They conduct joint research, collaborate on digital videos, maps and photos and engage in video chats/blog dialogues. After the workshop, youth are asked to conceive of micr-enterprises or projects which Open Youth Networks seeds through mentorships, learning reseources and even small grants.

Are you or your project interested in using education material made available under a Creative Commons licence? If so, how?: Yes. I have to learn more about what material is available but teaching youth to access information/resources and to increase their social capital is a big part of this project. We are beginning YouthLAB by creating migration maps using Google MyMaps that show how slaves moved from Africa to the Caribbean to America which they personalize with their own family pictures and stories. Maps of routes would be helpful

About Me:: I am a video artist, educator, curator and youth media advocate. I have an MFA in video from the Art Institue of Chicago. I taught high school and have worked with youth in informal settings around Chicagao for many years. I just began Open Youth Networks (www.openyouthnetworks.org)
